Hello! I know I was absent last week but it was one of those weeks where I had an event every day, but now I am back in business. Last weekend I had a Beach Wedding and there was a list of things I needed to bring in order to beat the heat and the humidity. This was my first destination wedding but I was so prepared it looked as if it was my 56th. So here are a few anapatips I wanted to share, hoping they will help you prepare for your next one!

Questions you need to ask the Bride/your date/ or whoever knows more about the wedding.

Asking these 4 questions will help you get a better understanding of what to wear, how to do your makeup, and in general how to show up and look amazing on the night. Ask whoever knows more, maybe it is the Bride, or your mom, your mother-in-law, don’t be shy, it will make your life easier.

1.Is the venue the actual Beach or is it indoors (hotel/salon)?

This is the mother of all the questions, it’s the most important one and it will set the tone for the whole event.

Footwear

If the wedding is on the beach I recommend skipping the stilettos and heels and choose wedges or pretty sandals, a heel will be caught in the sand and moving, dancing, and grooving will be impossible. Try embellishments and pretty accents that go well with your dress.

If it the venue is a garden avoid stilettos because they will also be a nightmare with the grass (and you can ruin them), try a chunky heel or a wedge, you still get the height but you don’t get the problems.

If it’s in a salon then stilettos and heels are your main options. Wedges can be included but they might end up looking too casual so choose a dressier option.

Anapatip: Always bring band-aids; (in every situation and wedding) there is nothing worse than having a huge blister when your favorite song is on. Also remember to stay away from suede, the fabric is too wintery for the beach and the abrasion with the sand can ruin it.

Dress

Beach weddings are a little more relaxed (that doesn’t mean sloppy) so it’s the perfect occasion to wear a dress with bright colors or soft textures (chiffon). Avoid anything too stiff or too “promy”, it’s the time to loosen up and wear bold colors and prints. Black is always a backup but skip it this time, go for something more cheerful. Long skintight gowns are not really appropriate, they lack mobility and are better left for a salon or hotel venue in a different location.

If the venue is a salon/hotel then you can ump your look a little more. Venues like this are almost always more formal and sequins and embellishments are always a go but remember to keep it in bright colors. You are still on the beach!

Beauty

There are two options, either you become your own make-up artist or you go to a beauty parlor. If you choose the second one ask the Bride or someone who lives in the area to recommend you a good place to go, you don’t want to end up looking like an extra from a Madonna video circa 1990 just because you didn’t get a reference.

If you are doing your own beauty then be mindful to bring these:

1. Primer; for eyes and face. You are going to be outside at some point, and there is nothing worse than looking at a picture, or a mirror and realizing that your smokey eye isn’t smokey anymore. It will help your make-up last longer and stay where it needs to be. If you have a setting mist then by all means bring it and mist it!
2. Lighter make-up. Avoid the cake look (every time), because the weather will most likely be hot, so your makeup should have the appropriate coverage but it should feel light on your skin, you don’t want it to melt away. You should also remember to have appropriate eye makeup. Heavy eyes don’t go in a beach setting; if you want to do a smokey eye try it in brown or in a softer color of your choice!
3. Good hair products. If the climate is humid then you might need to rethink that hairstyle of yours. Come prepared, I knew that if I flat ironed my hair I will end up looking like Mufasa. So I let my normal hair dry out and used a high intensity no frizz serum with volumizer. It gave my hair oomph and it stayed that way all night. Be sure to know your hair, maybe an updo is what works for you, or a braided style, or a pony, just be sure to bring the right products with you. Beaches are a great place for romantic hairstyles and beach waves, get in with the vibe!

If you can, try to squeeze a hydration treatment beforehand, it doesn’t have to be an expensive one, you can buy so many different ones in the supermarkets, this will help your hair have better shine and movement.

4. Oil blotting papers. Needless to say, even with primers and mists and all of that stuff, you will dance, and you might get a bit sweaty. So when you suddenly leave the dance floor after an amazing play list go and check if you have your shine under control, your dress should sparkle, not your forehead!
5. Watch your mani & pedi. You might get in the pool and in the ocean and all is good… except for your nails. I recommend to get your nails professionally done or use shellac/gel (even if it’s the at home treatment), this will ensure that they are always perfect. Chipped nails look plain awful and that is never a look to emulate. If you are doing them yourself with regular polish bring the bottles with you and be sure to set a base coat and a top coat so they last longer, and have a last minute touch up before the event (let them dry properly, you don’t want to stain yourself!).

Body

When you are in the beach your skin gets dryer so be sure to bring moisturizers so it looks healthy and radiant, leave the ones that have an oily consistency as they can make you look sweaty.

Needless to say you should have a shower beforehand (you sweat more in beaches) and please use the right amount of deodorant. Nobody wants to dance with the smelly person, no one.

2. Are we going to walk from the church to the venue?

Remember, if you are going to walk from the church to the venue ask if they will give out flip flops (sometimes they do), you don’t want to arrive to the wedding with sore feet. You can either reconsider the 12cm heel and opt for a chunkier version, or you can store a pair of flats (the really small ones that fold) on your purse or in an extra bag.

3. What is the typical climate of that month?

Beaches are normally hot, but it is not the same to go to a beach in Canada or to go to a beach in Mexico. So make Weather Channel your best friend and monitor the wedding day. If it’s indoors it will most likely have air conditioning, but still you will arrive from the church or from your hotel. Outside weddings might get chilly depending on the month so if you can’t handle a cold wind then you might want to consider bringing something extra just in case.

Also, if the weather is 32 Celsius then you might think again about wearing a heavy gown that will weight you down. Wear one that will let your body breathe (no satin, it stains easily), and you will feel great all night long. The hotter the climate the less skintight it should be, you might get claustrophobic and start sweating all over, and that is not a pretty picture.

4. At what time does it start?

This is not only in order to prepare yourself and to arrive on time (yes, always on time), but it also helps you decide what to wear. A daytime wedding in the sand and a nighttime wedding on the hotel are two different things. Daytime weddings are a more colorful, event, with lighter makeup (no raccoon eyes at 2 pm please) and you usually see more prints and brighter colors (reds, yellows, pinks, oranges). Nighttime weddings are a bit more exaggerated (more embellishments) and you can do a more dramatic makeup (but remember it is a beach). Be mindful of the time so you can dress accordingly.

GOLD ANAPATIP: BE CAREFUL OF A BAD TAN. This almost happened, hours before the wedding my boyfriend and I decided to go ride the banana and enjoy 2 hours in the ocean. We had a blast, yes we did, but apparently our skin didn’t. After the shower I was tanned. I got lucky, I skipped the blush and the bronzer, I had that glow, but be careful, one more hour and I could’ve looked like a lobster in heels. My bikini was a strapless one so no ugly tan marks, so save the super intricate bikinis for after the wedding, you don’t want to have bad tan lines in all of your pictures (and they hurt too). Wear appropriate sunscreen and reapply accordingly, take care of your skin.

Things to bring in your purse

I know you want to bring a little purse but these are the essentials!

1. Band-aids, because we hate blisters.
2. Lipstick, because we always need a touch up (there is food and cake and even a hottie ;P).
3. Bloating papers, because the shine should come from our smile not our nose.
4. Bobby pins, because hair sometimes has a mind of its own.
5. D and money, we know it’s an event, but you should always come prepared just in case.
6. Mints, no explanation needed.

Bring your cell phone (with enough battery), a card of the hotel you are staying at and whatever you need for a touch up (are you an eyeliner girl? a powder girl? a bronzer girl?). But most importantly go have fun! Wedding are a reason to celebrate and in Mexico we say “en el mar la vida es mas sabrosa” (in the ocean life is more delicious), so be ready to dance the night away!

¡Boda en playa!

¡Hola! Ya sé que he estado un poco desaparecida pero la semana pasada parecía broma y tenía un evento cada día, pero ya regresé y con material de por vida. El fin de semana pasado me fui a una boda en la playa y tenía una lista de cosas que tenía que llevar para estar preparada para vencer la humedad y el calor. Era mi primera boda playera pero venía con un cargamento que parecía que llevaba muchísimas. Aquí les comparto unos Anapatips y espero que les ayude a empacar para su siguiente boda.

Preguntas que debes de preguntarle a la Novia/tu pareja/cualquiera que sabe

Hacer estas 4 preguntas te va a ayudar a escoger que ponerte, a como maquillarte y en general a como irte y verte increíble en la noche. No importa a quien le preguntes, si es a la novia, a tu mamá, a tu suegra o al que sepa, que no te de pena, te hará el viaje más fácil.

1.¿La boda será en la playa (arena) o será en un hotel/salón?

Esta es la pregunta más importante, ya que básicamente todo se basa en su respuesta.

Calzado

Si la boda es en la playa te recomiendo que dejes tus tacones de aguja en tu casa y lleves o unos tacones corridos o unas sandalias bonitas. Los tacones se te van a enterrar en la arena y moverte, bailar o cualquier movimiento que hagas va a ser imposible. Busca opciones con acentos bonitos como flores o pedrería que le haga juego a tu vestido.

Si el evento es en un jardín igual deja tus tacones de aguja en casa y mejor usa tacones anchos o tacones corridos ya que esos dejarán que te muevas sin ningún problema y no perderás la altura. El jardín hace que los tacones se te encajen y se te maltraten mucho, cuídalos y evítate de problemas.

Si es en un salón entonces los stilettos (o tacón de aguja) y los tacones son tus mejores aliados. Puedes usar tacones corridos pero suelen verse un poco informal, busca detalles metálicos para hacerlos más elegantes.

Anapatip: Siempre debes traer curitas, no hay nada peor que tener una ampolla cuando todos bailan tu canción favorita. También recuerda no usar gamuza, ya que la tela es más de invierno y con el roce de la arena la puede dañar.

Vestido

Las bodas en la playa son más relajadas (eso no es lo mismo que fachosas), así que es la ocasión perfecta para usar un vestido de colores brillantes y texturas relajadas (chiffon). Evita los que te dan poca movilidad o que se ven salidos de un concurso de belleza. Es tiempo de usar colores vivos y estampados. El negro siempre es una opción, pero déjalo colgado en tu clóset por ahora, atrévete a escoger algún color atrevido. Los vestidos largos apretados no van realmente con el tema de la playa, no te dan mucho espacio para moverte y está mejor dejarlos para las bodas en salón.

Si el evento es en un hotel o salón entonces puedes maximizar un poco más tu look. Ya que los eventos ahí son un poco más formales y la pedrería y los adornos siempre son un plus, pero recuerda mantenerlos en colores más veraniegos, sigues estando en la playa.

Belleza

Tienes dos opciones, o te vuelves tu propia maquillista profesional o te vas a pintar y peinar a un salón de belleza. Si escoges la segunda entonces te recomiendo que le preguntes a la novia o a alguien que viva por el área que te de el dato de algún lugar. No quieres terminar viéndote como una extra en un video de Madonna en 1990.

Si tú te maquillarás entonces recuerda empacar esto:

1. Primer. Para los ojos y para la cara. En algún punto estarás afuera y no hay nada como verte en el espejo y darte cuenta que tus smokey eyes ya no tienen nada de smokey. Te ayudarán a preparar tu cara y a que tu maquillaje te dure más y se quede donde lo pusiste. Si tienes fijador entonces úsalo.
2. Maquillaje ligero. Siempre hay que evitar tener un pastel en la cara de maquillaje, pero ahora es mucho más importante estar ligera. Quieres que te cubra lo que te necesita tapar pero que deje a tu piel respirar ya que sino el calor lo va a derretir. Recuerda pintarte los ojos en tonos más ligeros. Los ojos muy cargados no van mucho en la playa, mejor usa degradados en colores cafés o morados y no seas tan drástica con el negro.
3. Buenos productos para el pelo. Si el clima es húmedo tienes que pensar bien como te vas a peinar. Vete preparada. Yo sabía que si me planchaba el pelo iba a terminar como Mufasa del Rey León. Así que deje que mi pelo se secara naturalmente y le aplique un spray que da volumen y controla el friz. Tú conoces tu pelo así que péinate de la forma en la que te hará verte mejor, tal vez es un chongo, o el pelo completamente recogido, o alguna trenza, pero eso sí, asegúrate de traerte los productos adecuados para tu peinado. Las playas son perfectos para experimentar con recogidos románticos o rizos playeros.
4. Hojitas quita aceite. La verdad no sé cómo se dicen en español, pero hay unas hojitas que te quitan el aceite cuando las presionas gentilmente en tu cara. Puede ser que traigas mucho fijador de maquillaje pero después de unas cuantas bailadas puedes empezar a sudar un poco. Así que lo único que tienes que hacer saliendo de la pista es ir al baño y quitar ese exceso con la hojita y quedas como nueva. ¡Tu vestido debe brillar, no tu cara!
5. Cuida tu manicure y pedicure. Es muy probable que te metas a la alberca y al mar y eso está perfecto pero para tus uñas es una pesadilla. Te recomiendo ir a un salón a que te las pinten profesionalmente con shelac o gel, o ya sea que te las hagas tú con un kit casero, ya que así te aseguras de que queden perfectas. No hay nada peor que unas uñas despintadas, te arruinan todo el look y te ves descuidada. Si te las vas a pintar recuerda traer todo tu kit para darles un retoque y poner una capa base y una capa selladora. No te desesperes y déjalas secar completamente, ya que sino se pueden arruinar y mancharás algo en el proceso.

Cuerpo

Cuando estás en la playa tu piel se deshidrata así que lleva crema corporal y facial para que luzca saludable. Evita traer los que son muy aceitosos ya que te pueden hacer ver sudada.

Espero no tener que recalcar que debes ir recién bañada, sudamos más en la playa y por favor usa desodorante que pueda soportar todo tipo de baile. Nadie quiere bailar con alguien que apesta, nadie.

2. ¿Caminarás de la iglesia hacia la recepción?

Recuerda, si vas a caminar desde la iglesia debes de preguntar si van a dar chanclas (a veces lo hacen), no quieres llegar con dolor de pies a la recepción. También eso te hará reconsiderar los súper tacones que querías llevar, y puede ser que uses unos con tacón más ancho o que lleves mini flats en tu bolsa o en una bolsa aparte.

3. ¿Cómo es el clima en esa época?

Las playas son normalmente calientes, pero no es lo mismo una ceremonia en Canadá a que una en México. Así que haz el Weather Channel tu mejor amigo para estar monitoreando el fín de semana de la boda. Si es en algún salón lo más probable es que tenga aire acondicionado, pero como quiera el clima te puede atacar saliendo del hotel. Las bodas afuera suelen refrescar en la noche, así que si eres muy friolenta es bueno checar el clima y llevar algo extra para estar cómoda.

También considera el otro lado del espectro, si está a 32 grados Celsius entonces un vestido pesado con mangas no es la mejor idea. Busca telas ligeras con movimiento para sentirte fresca (evita usar vestidos pegados de satín ya que se marca cualquier imperfección y cada gota de sudor). Entre más calor menos pegado el vestido, ya que te puede hacer sudar en todos lados, y eso no será nada bonito.

4. ¿A qué horas empieza?

Esta respuesta te ayudará a planear bien tu día para llegar a tiempo (si, aquí realmente si tienes que llegar temprano), y también te ayudará a escoger que usar. Las bodas de día en la playa y las de noche en el hotel son muy diferentes. En las de día usualmente usan más color (rojos, naranjas, amarillos, verdes) y estampados, al igual que el maquillaje es en colores más ligeros (nada de sombras negras a las 2pm). En la noche se puede ir más exágerada y con maquillaje más dramático (pero recuerda, estas en una playa).

ANAPATIP DE ORO: CUIDA TU TAN. Casi me pasa esta vez; a mi novio y a mí se nos ocurrió ir a la banana y al mar horas antes de la boda. Nos quedamos más tiempo de lo esperado y cuando salí de bañarme me di cuenta de que estaba quemada. Me salió barato el chiste ya que traía un buen tan y me salte el rubor, pero unas horas más y hubiera terminado como una langosta en tacones. Mi bikini era strapless entonces no tenía marcas de nada, así que guarda esos bikinis exóticos para después de la boda, ya que no quieres quemarte con tirantes por todos lados. Usa protector solar apropiado y vuélvete a aplicar, sé que es muy tedioso pero tu piel te lo agradecerá, comoquiera vas a agarrar color, pero de una forma saludable.

Que llevar en tu bolsa

¡Sé que quieres llevar una mini bolsa pero realmente necesitas esto!

1. Curitas, porque odiamos las ampollas.
2. Lipstick, porque vas a comer y siempre necesitas un retoque después del pastel o de el chavo :P).
3. Hojitas quita aceite, porque lo único que brillará será nuestra sonrisa.
4. Incaibles, porque el cabello tiene mente propia.
5. Identificación y dinero, sabemos que es un evento pero siempre hay que venir preparada.
6. Mentas, no necesito explicar esto.

Lleva tu celular (con batería), una tarjeta del hotel y lo que necesites para un retoque (ya sea polvo o delineador o lo de siempre). Pero lo más importante es divertirte, y en México tenemos un dicho que dice “en el mar la vida es más sabrosa”, ¡así que prepárate para bailar toda la noche!
